A traditional company in Genthin is the Genthin (Spee,) detergent factory, which was part of the Henkel Group until 2009 and operated under the name VEB Persil-Werk in the early 1950s. Later, the company, now known as VEB Waschmittelwerk Genthin, was part of the Agrochemical Combine. At the end of 2009, the Genthin Henkel factory was closed due to the company's restructuring plan. Large parts were taken over by Waschmittelwerk Genthin GmbH, which is part of the Hansa Group. LFD Holding, a pig production group and Germany's largest piglet producer, has its headquarters in Genthin. In addition to craft companies from various sectors, the city also has small and medium-sized companies in mechanical and device construction, building communication, communications technology, home air conditioning technology and the production of windows.
