Lübbenau/Spreewald [lʏbəˈnaʊ ˈʃpʁeːvalt] (until January 1, 1998 Lübbenau), Lower Sorbian Lubnjow/Błota [ˈlubɲoʊ̯ ˈbwɔta, ˈlubnoʊ̯ ˈbwɔta], is a town in the district Oberspreewald-Lausitz in Brandenburg, about 80 km southeast of Berlin. Due to its location on the southeastern edge of the Spreewald Biosphere Reserve and its city gate, the city of Lübbenau is also known as the gateway to the Spreewald. Lübbenau is part of Lower Lusatia, is part of the official settlement area of the Sorbs/Wends and is a member of the working group for cities with historic city centers in the state of Brandenburg. The city has had the title of state-recognized resort since 1998. Lübbenau takes on the tasks of a medium-sized center for the surrounding region.

The city of Lübbenau serves as a middle center for the surrounding region. Shopping options include the “Am Kaufland” shopping center with the retail chains Kaufland, Toom, AWG-Modecenter, Aldi, Takko and Action. The “Kolosseum Spreewald” shopping center in Neustadt has seventeen retailers and 21 companies from the health sector on an area of around 7,000 square meters. There is a medical center in the eastern part of the new town. The cultivation and processing of cucumbers was already an important economic factor in the middle of the 19th century. With the connection of Lübbenau to the Berlin–Görlitz railway line in 1866, the product could also be exported to more distant regions, e.g. B. be transported to Berlin. In the 21st century, there are still numerous companies that pickle cucumbers. For example, on the road to Stottoff there is a company that is now in its fifth generation processing cucumbers, the popularly known Gurkenbude. Since the beginning of 2025, the Schwarz Group has been building a data center in the “Am Spreewalddreieck” industrial area south of Lübbenau, which is scheduled to be completed in 2027.
